Swedish Games Conference and the Steward update

What's been going on?

This has been the longest wait between blog posts since we started writing this devlog. So what have we been doing?

Well in addition to the continual updates to the game, we have also been out traveling. Specifically we attended the Swedish Games Conference (SGC) in Skövde this past week. It was a great opportunity to show Imperia Borealis to hundreds of attendees as well as to network with the rest of the Swedish gamedev community. We had the chance to talk to representatives of Coffee stain, Stunlock, Iron gate and many more.

Speaking as a fan of their games, that was a real treat. It was also a surreal experience to see some of them try out our game.

Updates

Since last time we have also launched two updates to the game. The first one was a graphical update to the world map. Looking back, we have tried a few different approaches to how we wanted the world map to look and feel but lately i feel like we have landed on a good goal for that. It will require a lot more work to get there, but the end goal is clearer to us now.

Following that we also recently released the brand new steward system. Players can now specialize their estate even further by picking a steward for their estate. Each steward is themed around one play style pillar (Estate, Trade, Warfare, Diplomacy and Religion) and have activated abilities or perks that help improve that style of play.

Each steward can be further improved and specialized by collecting cards from other in game activities (bounties, bandit camps etc) and then slotted into the steward. Cards can be easily changed to fit whatever you want to focus on at the moment, changing your active steward takes a lot longer.

There are a fair amount of cards and a base line up of stewards in game already, but this is a system that we will continue to add to and improve over time.

Fårö

The community event that we launched a few weeks back is still on-going. While we haven't released numbers for it, the struggle between the Christians and the Aesir is closer than we anticipated. Whatever faction wins at the end will get a permanent monument placed on Fårö commemorating the cleansing of Fårö. If you want to be a part of the struggle, there is still time to join.

End

That's it for now. It is great to see the continuing growth of the player base and to see Gotland become the populated, buzzling island that we envisioned. Thank you so much for being a part of the journey.
